C&I Engineer (Control & Instrumentation)

Overview
I am currently recruiting for a Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Engineer to join our client at a gas storage facility near Basingstoke. This is an exciting opportunity to work on critical energy infrastructure, supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of control systems within a high-integrity environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop control and instrumentation systems for gas storage operations
- Produce and review technical documentation including P&IDs, control philosophies, and loop drawings
- Support installation, commissioning, and maintenance activities
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and safety regulations
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including process, mechanical, and electrical engineers
- Provide technical support for troubleshooting and system optimisation
- Participate in hazard studies (e.g., HAZOP, SIL assessments) where required
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience in the design of instrumentation and control systems
- Strong understanding of control system architecture, field instrumentation, and industrial communication protocols
- Experience working in hazardous area environments (e.g., oil & gas, energy, or similar sectors)
Candidates must meet at least ONE of the following criteria:
- Hold CompEx 12A and 12B certification
- Be Functional Safety certified (e.g. TÜV or equivalent)
- Demonstrate experience across the full lifecycle of control systems (design, implementation, commissioning, and operation)
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Familiarity with PLC/SCADA/DCS systems
- Knowledge of IEC standards and functional safety lifecycle
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
