We're supporting a major programme of transmission infrastructure works across Scotland and are looking for an experienced HV Commissioning Engineer to play a key role in the delivery of critical substation projects. This is an outstanding opportunity to secure a long-term contract with excellent earning potential and the chance to work on some of the UK's most significant grid and energy projects.
📍 Central Belt, Scotland
📅 12-Month Initial Contract + Annual Extensions
🚀 Immediate / ASAP Start Available
💰 £600-£750 per day (Outside IR35, All-In)
⏰ Monday-Friday Working Pattern (10-hour days, early finish Fridays) + potential weekend work
The Opportunity
As a key member of the commissioning team, you'll take ownership of HV and EHV substation commissioning activities, ensuring critical infrastructure is tested, energised, and handed over safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
⚡ Lead and deliver commissioning activities on HV/EHV substations and associated systems across major transmission projects.
⚡ Develop and implement commissioning plans, procedures, switching schedules, and test documentation.
⚡ Perform functional testing, fault-finding, and verification of protection, control, and SCADA systems.
⚡ Work closely with project, design, and construction teams to ensure successful project delivery and programme milestones are achieved.
⚡ Produce commissioning reports, test records, and final handover documentation.
⚡ Support energisation activities and ensure systems are brought online safely, compliantly, and on schedule.
⚡ Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with SSEN and SPEN safety rules, procedures, and industry best practice.
What We're Looking For
✅ Current SSEN or SPEN Authorisation.
✅ Proven experience commissioning HV/EHV substations (132kV-400kV).
✅ Strong technical knowledge of protection relays, control systems, SCADA, and substation automation.
✅ Experience working under UK DNO, TO, or TSO safety rules.
✅ Ability to manage multiple commissioning packages and work autonomously on site.
✅ Strong communication skills with a proven ability to engage with stakeholders at all project levels.
