US/UK Tax Senior Consultant - Shropshire (Hybrid/Remote)
Job Type: Permanent
Location: Shropshire (Hybrid/Remote)
Salary: £Negotiable + Bonus + Benefits
Ready to move beyond tax preparation and build towards a Tax Manager role? This Senior US/UK Tax Consultant position combines complex US/UK personal tax work with the opportunity to develop your career further, take greater ownership of client relationships and support junior colleagues.
Alongside preparing more complex returns, you'll develop your review responsibilities and contribute to tax planning, research and advisory assignments. You'll be a key point of contact for a portfolio of clients, helping them understand their tax obligations and providing clear, practical guidance. The role balances hands-on technical work with client management and mentoring, giving you scope to build the skills needed for a future management position.
The Role:
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Preparing complex US/UK tax returns for individuals.
- Reviewing straightforward returns for accuracy, compliance and quality, ensuring returns and payments are completed within the required deadlines.
- Supporting tax planning and advisory projects, researching technical issues and communicating findings to colleagues and senior management.
- Responding to client queries, maintaining regular contact and building effective relationships through communication and meetings.
- Assisting with responses to tax authority notices and preparing supporting documentation.
- Supervising and mentoring junior Tax Consultants, reviewing their work and providing constructive feedback.
- Managing multiple client engagements, prioritising deadlines and identifying opportunities to improve tax processes and apply best practice.
The Person:
You'll have strong knowledge of US and/or UK tax regulations and experience preparing complex tax returns, gained within a public accounting or tax environment. This role would typically suit someone with around three to five years' relevant experience who is ready to take on greater responsibility.
An AAT, ATT or EA qualification is required, with ACA or ACCA as desirable. Experience with personal and/or business tax returns is relevant, while exposure to both UK and US taxation would be advantageous. You should be keen to develop your personal tax knowledge; established expertise in both jurisdictions is not an essential requirement but highly desirable.
Experience in tax return review and experience supporting or mentoring junior colleagues.
Strong analytical skills, sound judgement and close attention to detail.
The ability to explain tax matters clearly, both in writing and in conversation.
A client-service mindset and the organisational skills to manage competing engagements and deadlines.
Proficiency with tax preparation, research and workflow software.
