Retained search: JAM Talent - Energy & Power
JAM Talent has been retained to lead the search for a Senior Project Manager for a fast-growing UK power systems business. All applications are handled directly by JAM Talent, in strict confidence.
About our client
Our client is unusual in the UK grid market. It is a power systems consultancy and an equipment designer-manufacturer under one roof. It solves power quality and grid compliance problems for wind, solar, BESS, data centre and industrial customers, then designs, builds and commissions the equipment that fixes them.
The business is owner-led, growing strongly and roughly doubling its headcount across three UK sites. It is investing in a new engineering function, new offices and international growth. Demand is being driven by the renewables pipeline, grid connections reform and new load types such as data centres and battery storage.
The role
This is a career-defining role for a project leader who wants to build something, not inherit a ready-made PMO. Reporting to the CTO, you will combine hands-on delivery of key projects with building the company's project management capability as it scales.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary projects across consultancy, engineering, manufacturing and site services, from handover to completion
- Develop clear project plans covering scope, programme, resources, milestones, cost, dependencies and risk
- Run project reviews with clear reporting and escalation to the senior leadership team
- Build visibility of current and future resource needs across the portfolio, and support prioritisation with functional leaders
- Develop and embed a proportionate project management framework covering lifecycle stages, gate reviews, change control, document control and lessons learned
- Work with Finance on budgets, forecasts, committed costs and commercial risk, and make sure variations are controlled
- Improve the handover from sales to projects
- Help shape the longer-term Projects function, including future team recruitment and development
What you'll bring
Essential:
- Significant project management experience in engineering, manufacturing, energy, infrastructure or another complex technical environment
- A track record of delivering multidisciplinary projects across several functional teams
- Strong planning, resource management, risk, change and commercial skills
- Experience of setting up or improving project processes and controls, not only working within an established PMO
- The confidence to challenge and influence at all levels
- The ability to bring structure and accountability to a growing business without unnecessary bureaucracy
Desirable:
- Power systems, electrical, utilities, HV/EHV or substation experience
- Engineer-to-order or engineer-to-manufacture project experience
- Implementing project management or ERP systems
- Building a Projects or PMO function
- APM, PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent
- International project experience
Why apply
- Real scope to shape how a growing engineering business delivers projects
- Technically varied work at the heart of the energy transition, including wind, BESS, data centres, industrial and transmission-connected sites
- End-to-end visibility from consultancy and design through manufacture and site
- Close working with the senior leadership team in an owner-led business
- A clear route into operations leadership as the business scales
- A six-month salary review
How to apply
Send your CV and a short covering note. Tell us about your hands-on experience of delivering complex projects, and any experience of building project processes, systems or governance in a growing business.
